How to Make a Newspaper Geodesic Dome

Today, the girls and I took time out from our other projects to do this fun math project. I'd seen a video here about building a geodesic dome from newspaper, and we'd been collecting our daily newspapers for weeks to build a supply pile. You'll also need at LEAST one full roll of tape. (I'm sure masking tape would work well, too, but the girls have a tough time ripping the masking tap anywhere near straight or with any speed, so we stuck with the clear tape.)

It's definitely a team project, though I'm sure someone who's not easily frustrated could go it alone.

The most time-intensive part was making the 65 rolled up tubes, which we completed in the livingroom before lunchtime. It probably took us about half the time to actually put the structure together.

  2. NOw, does the leaping and dancing through the project actually help strengthen the structural integrity of the dome?

  3. Oh, I'm CERTAIN the leaping provides greater structural integrity, if only because the addition of more tape is usually involved after the leap session. ;)
