Best Family Adventure Summer Hiking Series - Lemon Grove Loop

A couple of weeks ago we got to talking along the trail about some of our favorite kid-friendly hikes in the area. While I had scheduled out a month's worth of outings, I'd left July's details blank in hopes of this kind of feedback. So it was Amy who suggested this loop. Her kids like it, particularly "the rock" and the various optional routes.

Today, we gathered at 10:15 a.m. at the gate and headed out with a cool breeze in our faces. First stop? Only about 50 yards up the trail - another great tree for kids to explore. But our young leaders didn't take long to hit the trail again and forged their way up the hill with a train of toddlers to pre-teens following behind, moms taking up the sweeper duties.

We stopped at "the rock" for a snack break, and the kids broke themselves naturally into groups - older storytelling types under the shade of a thick bush; younger explorers checking out gravity along the edges; moms keeping tabs on it all while doling out lunch and snacks.

Great idea, Amy!
